39th TIME OF MUSIC FESTIVAL POSTPONED BY ONE YEAR

Due to the current Corona virus situation, the Finnish government has advised to cancel festivals and public events until the end of July. Therefore, the 39th Time of Music festival and related summer academy courses will be postponed to 2021.

Time of Music festival has been arranged annually since 1982. This year is the first time in its history, when the festival cannot be arranged. “As an international festival and summer academy, we have numerous international artists and students every year, whose lives are now affected by the conditions in their respective countries as well as international travel restrictions. Our summer academy courses have received a lot of attention, but the number of applications received is lower than usually due to the uncertainty of the situation. Under such circumstances, it would not be feasible to arrange the summer academy and festival.” says Johan Tallgren, the Artistic Director of the festival.

Time of Music is currently negotiating with the teachers of the summer academy to reschedule the courses to next year. The students who have already applied will be contacted separately. Many of the planned productions for this summer will be moved to the upcoming years next to the  programme  in negotiations for 2021 . “We aim to continue being a topical contemporary music festival also in the future and react to the societal changes and challenges in our curating work.” Johan Tallgren adds.

The current plan is to arrange the next Time of Music festival in Viitasaari between July 6th – July 12th, 2021.
