Ms. Kristiina Penttinen has been named the new Executive Director of Time of Music festival and the Summer Academy from the beginning of 2021. The festival is one of the oldest contemporary music festivals in Finland and has many international partners. Composer Johan Tallgren continues as the Artistic director of the festival.
Penttinen has been working as general manager of the Joensuu City Orchestra and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and as vice-principal of Merikanto-opisto music school. At the moment she lives in Pihtipudas and does doctoral studies in Jyväskylä University at the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies.
”We are excited to have Kristiina Penttinen as the next executive director of the festival. She is familiar with contemporary music, national festival field, history of our festival, and the city of Viitasaari” says Maria Kaisa Aula, chair of the festival association.
Currently, Time of Music festival is renewing its strategy. Kristiina Penttinen plans to further integrate the festival to the local community and the cultural atmosphere of Viitasaari and the neighboring communities.
“The Time of Music could be more integral part of the life and culture of the local region. As the 40th celebration of the festival will be in couple of years, both international contacts and local collaboration should be strengthened” Penttinen outlines.
The next edition of Time of Music Festival will be organized in Viitasaari, Finland from July 5th to July 12th, 2021. The summer academy courses organized alongside with the festival will be published and the admissions opened in late January.
