What is the notion of field recording today? What is a recording? What is recording? And what would you use to record, the body, your senses, a microphone, a pencil…?
In this course, held on 1.-7.6. at Viitasaari Summer Academy, the tutors Claudia Molitor and Anna Koch will give the participants each morning an object, a word, an environment or a thought to feed their imagination. In small groups that will change every day, and alongside tutors, participants will develop responses to these propositions and spend the day following their ideas. In the afternoon gatherings, the processes of the day will be shared in the form of an experience.
Towards the end of the course, the participants will develop some of these experiences and explore the possibility of framing them as a public event.
The course is open to people curious about expanding and challenging the notion of field recording as well as their own artistic practice, though no prior experience of field recording is required. It is aimed at composers, sound artists and performers as well as performance artists, choreographers, theatre and interdisciplinary artists working with sound. The course language is English. Applicants should be born after 1.7.1990.
