Contemporary accordion course, 5-11th July 2022, taught by Andreas Borregaard

Andreas Borregaard

Through an extensive career as soloist and chamber musician, Andreas Borregaard communicates the accordion’s fascinating qualities and palette of expressions to a wide audience. Collaborating with composers from all over Europe, he is actively influencing the development of this young instrument’s use and repertoire – and pushing the boundaries of the performer’s involvement on stage. Through a parallel fascination with early music, he explores how the accordion can add new colours to the keyboard repertoire of the 18th century. In his own words Booregaard might have to break a couple of traditional classical music-paradigms to keep this art form alive.

Since 2010 Andreas Borregaard has been teaching accordion and chamber music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and in 2017 he was appointed accordion lecturer at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he is currently also a PhD fellow in artistic research („Just Do It! – exploring the musician’s use of bodily performance“ 2018–2022).

For Borregaard teaching is both wonderfully joyful and wonderfully challenging, he considers himself grateful for getting the opportunity to share his approach to the accordion as a classical instrument and discuss the art (and meaning) of music making with students.

The accordion course is intended for professional students of accordion playing and young professionals. When applying to the course, with the registration form applicants must send a short motivation letter, samples of their playing, and a list of contemporary repertoire they intend to work on during the course in class and leading to the public concert during the final day of the course. The course repertoire must have been composed after the 1940s. Taking into consideration that there is repertoire for 2-3 accordions, options for that can too be considered.

The age limit for participants in the course is 32 years (born after 1st of July 1990). The language of the course is English.

The fee includes participation in the course, open lessons and workshops, and free entrance to all of the festival concerts.

The applications should be sent at the latest 14th of April.
