A String Quartet Party

Friday 3.7.2026 klo 19.00

Viitasaari Church

The German Fabrik Quartet will give the world premiere of Sebastian Hilli’s Herbarium together with guitarist Petri Kumela. Commissioned by Kumela and dedicated to him, the composition draws inspiration from the herbarium of American poet Emily Dickinson, in which plants have been pressed, dried, and preserved – stopped in time as silent memories. In the music, these “preserved moments” are brought back to life: fragile, fragmentary, and at times intensely eruptive. Each section of the work is based on a single plant and its associated symbolism.

Other works in the concert lead to partial truths of varying playing styles, a restless storm of colors, and a wondrous rabbit hole that leads to dreamlike String Quartet Party.
