Philip Venables’ Answer Machine Tape, 1987 tells queer history of the late visual artist David Wojnarowicz. Using Wojnarowicz’s actual answer machine tape’s contents as foundation and extending his instrument with motion sensors, Zubin Kanga’s piano creates unique visual elements to support the music.

Answer Machine Tape, 1987 was commissioned by Zubin Kanga with the support of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, Royal Holloway, University of London and the Marchus Trust; Time of Music (Finland), November Music (Netherlands) and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK) with the support of Sounds Now project, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union; and Festival d’Automne à Paris (France).
